We had just moved into our ancestral house in Rajesthan during June 1999. We were unpacking all day, and by the evening, everyone was so tired they could barely walk. It was about 11:00 PM, and I went to the room that I shared with my sister to collapse into bed. I fell asleep right away.
Something woke me up at around 3:00 AM. I heard a knock on the window, and my heart began to pound. I tried to wake my sister, but she is a very heavy sleeper and would not stir.
I hid under the covers and fell asleep again, but woke up an hour later. All of a sudden I heard distinct voices coming from everywhere. I felt a great dizziness consuming my head and blacked out, seemingly for no reason. As I fell into the welcoming darkness, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bloody face hovering at the window.
Though I have no explanation, nor did I see the face again, I will always remember that night.
